Sea Scouts, Ringsend

Ringsend Sea Scouts

Volunteer-led fun, friendship and challenge afloat for young people aged 6-18 in the Docklands area. It is volunteer-led and we have opportunities for adults to give back to the community through facilitating youth activities. We also offer camping, hiking and other outdoor adventures, with the objective of building resilience and offering offering opportunities for structured personal development

Trinity Access – Foundation Course

The Foundation Course is a full-time course that prepares students, both personally and academically, to go on to study at degree level.The course offer an academic and personal preparation for school leavers from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. On successful completion of the Course students receive a Level 6 Certificate in Foundation Studies for Higher Education from Trinity.

Academy of the Near Future – Visioneers Workshops

Visioneers is a programme for Transition Year students, providing an opportunity to explore and experiment with Internet of Things hardware as used in smart city applications. Visioneers is a stream of Academy of the Near Future a partnership of the CONNECT research centre in Trinity with Dublin City Council via the Smart Docklands initiative. Visioneers is funded by Science Foundation Ireland.

Trinity Access – Liberties College

Trinity Access partners with Liberties College of Further Education, to deliver a one-year, full-time, QQI-accredited university access course for school leavers. Students attend classes in Liberties College. The Partnership aims to widen access to degree courses and to maximise the numbers of socio-economically disadvantaged students progressing to Trinity College Dublin.

Tuition support

NCI offers after-school tuition support programmes in Maths and Irish for students sitting their Junior and Leaving Certificate exams.The programmes are run between the NCI campus and local community centres and are facilitated by experienced tutors and/or NCI student volunteers.

Discover University is a summer programme that aims to give young people the opportunity to experience a taste of life at NCI and to see college as part of their future. Developed in collaboration with local companies such as McCann FitzGerald, Dublin Port and Facebook, it encourages young people to achieve their dreams through education.

Educational Guidance Programmes

ELI’s Educational Guidance Programmes explores young people’s career aspirations and opportunities;  and help awareness among students (and their parents) of the importance of third level education in the pursuit of certain careers.  Volunteers from local companies such as McCann FitzGerald, Dublin Port and Facebook are inspiring role models and supportive adults.

Outreach/ Drop-in

The youth team work on different nights of the week in the community, to offer an outreach service for young people (13+ years) who are not already in groups and who may need various types of supports, providing a safe, supervised ‘unstructured space’ to socialise.

The North East Inner City Brighter Futures Restorative Practice Programme supports young people to develop their emotional literacy; improve their communication skills; and build mutually respectful relationships with young and old alike.

Junior Achievement Ireland (JAI) helps prepare young people for their futures by delivering hands-on, experiential learning in entrepreneurship, employability, financial literacy and the value of STEM. Matheson contributes to mentoring students for the programme.

Intercultural group

The Intercultural group’s aim is to address the issues of isolation, exclusion, discrimination and insecurity experienced by unaccompanied minors and refugees (aged 14-17 years) in the community. Activities target personal and social development, provide fun and a safe space to be together.
